Spring Opening Side by Side Shotguns
Our side by side shotguns are based on the Atkin action, technically difficult to make, but regarded by many, including Gough Thomas Garwood as the best spring-opening side by side mechanism.

Spring-Opening
The improvements made by Atkin to the Purdey action changed the cocking and ejector systems in order to eliminate the difficulty of closing the gun that was inherent in the original design.
The action, chosen for it's rapid loading capability, enables opening and ejection of spent cases with just one hand.
Hand-built without compromise
Every Hellis spring-opener will be totally hand built, not merely hand finished. No less than 1500 man-hours goes into the crafting of each Hellis spring-opener, reflected in the perfect fit and blemish-free finish.
In an age when computers and machines have taken over much of the craftsman's work, Charles Hellis guns are an increasingly rare celebration of traditional skills.
The finest specialists in their field have been brought together to offer their unique talents to the development and production of the spring-opening guns. Such skills are kept alive by the relatively small band of craftsmen capable of producing work of this quality.
The final result is a gun of perfect balance and handling, whatever gauge is chosen. The customer will of course be able to specify every detail of their gun to their own requirements. As such, no two Charles Hellis guns will be identical.
Once again the talents of the top craftsmen of London have been given full rein to show that traditional British gunmaking remains the finest in the world.
